BALLE Seattle Meeting Scheduled: Judy Wicks

Judy Wicks, co-chair of the national Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) and the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia, will be in Seattle February 26, 2004, to inform locally owned businesses about the organization and assist the nascent Seattle chapter.

Judy Wicks, co-chair of the national Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) and the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia, will be in Seattle February 26 to inform locally owned businesses about the organization and assist the nascent Seattle chapter. BALLE serves local, independent businesses dedicated to building a sustainable local economy.

A dinner meeting on Thursday, February 26, 2004,will be highlighted with a presentation by Wicks, with ample opportunity for networking. It will begin with networking at 6:00 pm at the Essential Bakery Café, 2719 E Madison in Seattle’s Madison Valley neighborhood. Admission fee of $20 covers the cost of dinner.

BALLE Seattle adheres to the mission of the national organization, which now has chapters in 11 states and British Columbia. This mission is to support, connect, and strengthen local, independent businesses that are dedicated to building healthy, sustainable communities.

Known for combining food, fun, and social activism, Wicks founded White Dog Café in Philadelphia in 1983. It has grown from a take-out coffee shop to a successful business with over 100 employees and into a national model of “doing well by doing good”.
